Blown-In Fiberglass Insulation: A Modern Alternative to Cellulose

A Powerful New Option In Blown-In Insulation

For years, homeowners who wanted to blow insulation into their walls or attics had one option: cellulose. Cellulose is a loose material made of finely chopped paper and cloth, mixed with a fire retardant, that can be blown into empty cavities in walls, under floors, or in ceiling framework.

For open cavities like attic roof lines, cellulose requires netting to hold it in place, or drywall over top.

Mohawk Valley Spray Foam is proud to be an early adopter of a unique new blown fiberglass product (called Spider) that is more efficient, more moisture-resistant, and easier to install than cellulose. It also will not settle over time.

With no netting requirement it goes on fast, stays in place, and allows for rapid drywall installation, with no bowing or challenges in securing drywall. In many situations, we can be done insulating in the time it would take another installer just to apply netting!

For blown-in insulation in Albany and Central NY – whether fiberglass or cellulose – Mohawk Valley Spray Foam can help.

The Benefits Of Spider Blown Fiberglass

Blown-in fiberglass insulation comes with multiple benefits over cellulose insulation:

Better Moisture Resistance

Fiberglass is naturally much more water- and moisture-resistant than cellulose, reducing the risk of moisture build-up or retention in sealed cavities. Worry less about mold and mildew, and enjoy your home’s comfort with peace of mind.

Easier and Faster Installation In Open Cavities

With no requirement for netting, blown-in fiberglass insulation can be installed in a fraction of the time that cellulose would require, meaning lower installation costs. Additionally, drywall installers love that it will not “bulge” beyond studs or rafters, making drywall installation a breeze.

Greater Longevity and Performance

Over time, cellulose insulation compacts, leaving open gaps in wall cavities.

Our Spider blown-in insulation does not settle like cellulose. Fiberglass retains its size, even years later, for improved energy efficiency and no thermal gaps.

Common Questions About Fiberglass Insulation

Fiberglass insulation does not release any gasses. While spray foam does release some gasses immediately after installation, this process is done within 24 hours and the home is ready for your family!

Yes, for all of the reasons listed above! Fiberglass resists moisture, provides better insulative qualities, and installs faster than traditional cellulose techniques.

That’s right! A big part of helping our prospective customers (even if we never work together) is just getting you educated and informed! That’s part of our free quote and consultation process.
